The Downtown Photo Challenge!
Downtown Cleveland Alliance Amateur Photo Contest
In partnership with Dodd Camera, The Plain Dealer, The Theater District, Cleveland Public Art, Dollar Bank, and The Cleveland Public Library.
Calling all amateur photographers to submit photos addressing life and built environment in Downtown Cleveland! We want to see Cleveland through the public eye. What defines your experience here? What story do you want to tell about our city?
To enter, click the link below and fill out the entry form. Attach your digital file(s) in the following format:
- Maximum quality JPEG in RGB color
- 7.5 x 10 inches, 150ppi
- File name should include your first and last name. Example:
Smith_Sally.1.jpg
Smith_Sally.2.jpg

A Maximum of two (2) photos may be entered. Photos must have been taken after January 1, 2008.
DEADLINE: All submissions must be received by 11:59pm on August 15th, 2008.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Entrants must be amateurs or students. Commercial photographers and post-secondary photo educators are not permitted to participate.
- Photos must belong to the entrant, be their original work and must not infringe the rights of any third party to the best of photographer's knowledge. The original image may be cropped but must not be altered beyond brightness, color balance and contrast adjustment. Judges reserve the right to disqualify any image.
- Entry into this promotion constitutes the entrant’s irrevocable and perpetual license to Downtown Cleveland Alliance, without further compensation, to use, reproduce, print, publish, transmit, adapt, enhance or display such submission for the promotion and conduct of this and future DCA photo competitions, notwithstanding the additional use by the Dollar Bank Regional Showcase LED board. Photos will be credited to the photographer in all cases to the best of the sponsors’ abilities.
Photo contest entries will be juried between August 15-31, 2008
by a panel of judges that include:
- Bill Gugliotta, The Plain Dealer Director of Photography;
- Bob Herbst, Bob Herbst Photography
- Lillian Kuri, Director of Special Projects, The Cleveland Foundation;
- Mary Jo Toles, Cleveland Institute of Art Professor of Photography; and
- Howard Tucker, Mort Tucker Photography.
Decisions of the judges are final and binding in all respects.
- Contest open only to legal residents of Ohio who are 18 years of age or older as of the date of entry.
- Winners must complete and sign an IRS W-9 form with their name, address and Social Security number as a condition of receiving prizes.
Entries that do not comply with these requirements will not be accepted.
PRIZES
Grand Prize: $500 and a framed print of winning photo provided by Dodd Camera.
Second Prize: $300 and a framed print of winning photo provided by Dodd Camera.
Third Prize: $200 and a framed print of winning photo provided by Dodd Camera.
(Winners will need to provide a lab-ready file, 300dpi)
Top 10 entries will be shown approximately once an hour on the Theater District's Video Boards throughout the month of September. Photos will be credited.
All entries will be shown on Dollar Bank’s Regional Showcase LED Board at the Galleria, throughout the month of September.
All entrants will have the option to have their photos credited and archived in the Cleveland Public Library Photo Collection, History and Geography Department.
Contest winners will be announced on or before September 5, 2008.
Entrants will be asked to consider donating their photos to Downtown Cleveland Alliance for use in our publications promoting the City. Donating is not a requirement for entry into the contest. Donated photos will always be credited to the photographer whenever possible.
